Specialist in Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine

About Me

I have been practicing acupuncture for over 25 years and remain full of admiration for this extraordinary system of medicine. I have developed particular areas of interest and expertise in Women’s Health and Teenagers but I also enjoy running a general practice which brings in a wide range of people each with their unique blend of symptoms.

I was brought up in Portugal and began my education at a French Lycée. These early experiences formed the basis of my first careers. I studied Hispanic Languages and Literature at St Andrews University and worked at GCHQ, later joining the BBC World Service as a news sub. I became interested in acupuncture following a period of ill health which also led me to study and practice Qi Gong, T’ai Chi, Buqi and meditation.

Healing takes place in many different ways. Over the years I’ve come to realise that a calm and positive environment makes a huge difference: there is space to talk and be heard, there is time to develop a collaborative approach in which knowledge is shared and a healing formula can be devised which works for you.

HOW I STARTED IN ACUPUNCTURE

I trained with Angie and John Hicks at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading. I was particularly drawn to this college as it was the first to combine the teachings of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) with Five Element acupuncture. The strengths of these two systems is that whilst both aim to find the root cause of your illness, they focus on different areas: TCM on physical symptoms, and Five Element acupuncture on your emotional wellbeing.

I have also recently completed the Chinese Herbal Medicine course with the Phoenix Academy and am a member of the Federation of Traditional Chinese Medical Practitioners (FTCMP)

As a member of the British Acupuncture Council I am bound by its Codes of Professional Conduct and Safe Practice.
