Moxibustion
Also known as moxa (mugwort or artemisia), this is a warming herb which is used on selected acupuncture points usually to improve circulation. Depending on the diagnosis, moxa can be used in the form of a cone directly on the skin, as a warming stick or on the end of a needle.
It is very effective in cold and/or painful conditions like frozen shoulder but there is also much research which supports its use in turning breech babies, joint pain and in gastrointestinal issues among others. The effect of moxibustion is often supplemented by the use of infrared heat lamps.
